Who processes the data

The site maola.org belongs to Ocean Peaks — a round-the-world oceanographic expedition aboard the sailing research yacht Maola.

What is collected

The site runs a Yandex Metrica counter. It collects non-identifying data about your visit: IP address, device and browser type, screen resolution, language, referring source, pages viewed, time on page, and interactions such as clicks and scrolling.

Metrica stores cookies holding visit identifiers in your browser: _ym_uid, _ym_d, _ym_isad, and _ym_visorc when session recording is enabled.

The site has no forms, no registration and no payments. The email addresses in the contacts section are our own; we do not collect messages through the site — you send them directly from your own mail client.

Why

To understand which sections people read, where visitors come from, and at which point they stop looking for information about joining the expedition. We use this to improve the site.

We do not use this data for advertising, do not sell it, and do not combine it with other databases.

Who else is involved

Yandex Metrica is provided by Yandex LLC, acting as data processor. Metrica servers are located in Russia. Processing terms are set out in the service documents: yandex.ru/legal/metrica_termsofuse and yandex.ru/legal/confidential.

Legal basis

The basis for processing is your consent.

For visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland the counter does not load until you press “Accept” in the banner. Declining means no analytics runs at all.

For other visitors the counter runs on consent expressed by continued use of the site. You can withdraw it with the button at the end of this page.

For visitors from the EEA, the UK and Switzerland

If you give consent, data about your visit is transferred to Russia — a country outside the European Economic Area. The European Commission has not recognised Russia as providing an adequate level of personal data protection.

Yandex LLC relies on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission and provides a data processing agreement. Even so, the legal basis for the transfer itself is your explicit consent, and the residual risk associated with state authority access to data in that jurisdiction cannot be excluded.

Session recording (Webvisor) is disabled for you: only non-identifying visit statistics are collected, with no replay of your actions on the page.

Retention

Retention periods are governed by Yandex Metrica's own rules. We do not export Metrica data into our own storage and keep no separate copies.

Your rights

You may withdraw consent at any time, request information about the processing of your data, or ask for its deletion — write to info@maola.org.

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority in your country.

Opting out independently of us

Blockers such as uBlock Origin and AdGuard stop Metrica across all sites at once.

Yandex provides its own Metrica opt-out mechanism: yandex.ru/support/metrica/general/opt-out.html.

Clearing cookies in your browser settings resets the visit identifiers.

Withdraw consent

The button deletes the stored decision and Metrica cookies, after which the counter stops working in this browser. If you were shown the consent banner, it will appear again on your next visit.
